Will Government be "For the People" or For Rich Elites and Friends of Hillary?

This election will decide whether government is the servant of the people or it's master!

At the same time I was writing my column for the local newspaper (see below) Thomas Frank at the left wing Guardian newspaper in the United Kingdom was drafting a similar piece titled "Forget the FBI cache; the Podesta emails show how America is run." Obviously we are thinking along similar lines.

Frank observes:
[Podesta emails] are a window into the soul of the Democratic party and into the dreams and thoughts of the class to whom the party answers.

The class to which I refer is not rising in angry protest; they are by and large pretty satisfied, pretty contented. Nobody takes road trips to exotic West Virginia to see what the members of this class looks like or how they live; on the contrary, they are the ones for whom such stories are written. This bunch doesn’t have to make do with a comb-over TV mountebank for a leader; for this class, the choices are always pretty good, and this year they happen to be excellent.

They are the comfortable and well-educated mainstay of our modern Democratic party. They are also the grandees of our national media; the architects of our software; the designers of our streets; the high officials of our banking system; the authors of just about every plan to fix social security or fine-tune the Middle East with precision droning. They are, they think, not a class at all but rather the enlightened ones, the people who must be answered to but who need never explain themselves.
Frank goes on to describe how this cozy, incestous, well connected and wealthy elite prosper. What he fails to mention is how they are milking the hard working efforts of the millions of Americans who do not share their good fortune. That brings me to my column:
Government ‘For the People’ or ‘For Sale’ to friends of Hillary?

At Gettysburg in 1864, Abraham Lincoln resolved that this country should have “a new birth of freedom — and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” In a few days we have the opportunity to affirm that vow or turn away from it to a government under Hillary Clinton that, instead of being for the people, would be for sale to the highest bidder.

We are rapidly dividing into a nation where the wealthy and well-connected are put to the front of the line, while the needs of those who do not have such means are ignored. With Clinton as president, that sad process would accelerate, ultimately leading to consequences too terrible to contemplate.

I gained personal insight into the problem last week. I was required to appear in person at a post office to apply for a new passport. I was shocked to learn that most area post offices had a three- to four-week wait just to get an appointment to apply. But those with greater financial resources could avoid that delay and use an expedited service after paying a much higher fee.

Indifference to the needs of ordinary citizens might be viewed as an inconvenience. After all, no one died. But regular Americans are dying waiting for care at VA hospitals. Again, if vets have independent means to pay for care, they fare better. God help the poor souls who don’t.

Think also of inner-city children trapped in failing public schools while people like the Obamas and the Clintons send their children to private schools.

Clinton hates the phrase “everyday Americans” but nevertheless pretends to be the champion of the little guy. Now we learn that the opposite is true. Half of the non-government individuals she met with as Secretary of State were wealthy contributors to her family’s foundation. You want access to State Department resources? You better pay up front.

Few examples illustrate this better than the ABC News report titled “How Hillary’s State Department gave special attention to ‘friends of Bill’ after Haiti quake.” Emails show Clinton donors went to the front of the line as Haiti became a “gold rush” for profit at the expense of the needy. Many promised homes, hospitals and schools were never built. Sadly, the relief money never made it to Haiti. Why do you think Haitians repeatedly protest against the Clintons?

That unending web of corruption is slowly emerging from the emails Hillary went to such extraordinary lengths to hide. Is it any wonder she lied over and over to the American people about her emails? Google “Rep. Trey Gowdy questions FBI Director Comey” if you’re one of the last people on the planet who is not aware of her mendacity.

Look up “Travelgate” if you want yet another example of how, as first lady, she destroyed the lives of “everyday Americans” to reward rich Clinton backers. Hillary’s corruption makes Watergate look like a church picnic. A miasma of scandal, corruption and deceit has swirled around Hillary for decades. She is a modern-day Lady Macbeth and the only antidote to double, double toil and trouble for the next four years is Donald Trump.

In 1988, I cheered President Reagan in the White House Rose Garden the morning after we elected Bush as his successor. Reagan had asked us to “win one more for the Gipper” and make America that shining city on the hill. Let’s do it again.
